When change calls<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sometimes change doesn’t wait, it arrives when you least expect it. One moment, everything feels familiar and under control and the next, the email lands, the announcement is made, the restructure hits \u2014 and suddenly the world you thought was steady no longer feels that way.<\/p>\n

You didn’t plan this next chapter. But here you are \u2014 <\/em>in the middle of a season that has already begun.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just like fall after summer, some endings arrive whether we’re ready or not.<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

The change you didn’t choose<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maybe it\u2019s a lay\u2011off.
A role dissolved.
A project cancelled.
A team reshuffled.<\/p>\n

You might feel blindsided \u2014 frustrated, even betrayed or you feel relieved (and then guilty for feeling that). It\u2019s messy, this kind of change.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the truth: Even when you didn\u2019t choose the change, you still get to choose your response. <\/strong>You still get to decide what story this moment will tell about you.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udcac \u201cWe don\u2019t always choose the change \u2014 but we can choose to move through it consciously.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A story from a client<\/strong><\/p>\n

A client of mine \u2014 let\u2019s call him Markus \u2014 came to coaching shortly after a major restructuring at his company. Within a short period, several senior positions \u2014 including his own \u2014 were made redundant. After years of dedication and strong performance in the company, he suddenly found himself without a role.<\/p>\n

The change hadn\u2019t been part of his plan<\/strong>. Markus had built his career steadily and successfully, and the idea of starting over felt both unreal and daunting. Yet, in the midst of uncertainty, he knew he needed to make sense of what had happened and to decide what might come next.<\/p>\n

When we started working together, his goal was to regain clarity and confidence, explore his options, and turn this unexpected career interruption into an opportunity for intentional reinvention<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When the news came, it hit hard. The familiar routine vanished overnight, and Markus suddenly found himself in unfamiliar territory \u2014 both professionally and emotionally.<\/p>\n

Losing his position so suddenly Markus felt a mix of anxiety and hesitation.\u00a0He questioned whether he could successfully pivot and transition to a new role, company or even industry. Together, we focused on what he could control: the skills, experiences, and relationships he had cultivated over the years.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Through coaching, he began answering questions for himself that would help him gain clarity and confidence:<\/p>\n

    When do I feel most alive and engaged in my work?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Where could I make a meaningful impact next?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    What kind of environment or culture allows me to do my best work and feel energized?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    What is stopping me (really) from moving forward?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Markus connected with peers in the industry, explored opportunities across different countries, and joined a professional community he had long been curious about. Gradually, he gained clarity about the kind of role and environment that would align with his values and strengths<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Within short time, Markus was ready to apply confidently for positions that truly fit his experience and aspirations. He eventually stepped into a new role that combined strategic leadership, people development, and project management \u2014 a position that felt like a natural progression rather than a compromise.<\/p>\n

    \ud83c\udf31 \u201cSometimes uncertainty isn\u2019t a setback \u2014 it\u2019s an invitation to step into a stronger, more authentic version of yourself.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Try this: Reflect before you rebuild<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

    If you\u2019ve recently gone through an unwanted change, here\u2019s a reflection I often share with clients:<\/p>\n

    1. Name what’s ending.<\/strong> Write down what you’re truly letting go of \u2014 not just the job, but the routines, relationships, or identities tied to it.<\/span><\/p>\n

    2.<\/strong> Notice what remains.<\/strong> What strengths, experiences, and values are still with you?<\/span><\/p>\n

    3. Ask what wants to emerge.<\/strong> When you imagine the next chapter, what draws your attention or curiosity \u2014 even slightly?<\/span><\/p>\n

    Don\u2019t rush the answers. <\/strong>It’s not about going back to the way things were; it’s about consciously taking the next step.<\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/strong><\/p>\n

    Embracing the new season<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

    Fall is the season of letting go \u2014 not because everything is lost, but because it\u2019s making space for something new to grow. Career transitions can be the same.<\/p>\n

    Even when change <\/strong>arrives uninvited, you can meet it with presence<\/strong>. You can choose to turn endings into openings. You can shape this next chapter with intention.<\/strong><\/p>\n
